Skillzville Reaches the Age of Commerce

The Town Hall Skillzville broke ground on yesterday opened today at Level 5 — the Age of Commerce.

Yesterday Skillzville cleared the ground. Today the Town Hall stands finished at Level 5, and with it the city crosses into the Age of Commerce — the tier where a town's residents stop being mouths to feed and become customers to serve. The masons did not linger over it either: before the day was out, fresh ground was broken for a Trading Post.

Caravans took notice. Three tycoon consignments rolled into Skillzville — glass from bradskillz and from ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸, fine wine from Jörg. And bradskillz, evidently in a spending mood, laid out 90,000 gold on their own estate, the single largest movement of coin anywhere in the realm today, before collecting the Masterwork medal.

In Crimson's City the story was speed. The Scriptorium and The Colosseum both went from bare ground to open doors inside the same day — two landmarks in an afternoon's work. Visitors came for them: 340 prestige off ten landmark visits, the deepest surge the realm saw. The scoreboard, though, still belongs elsewhere — XM Nexus holds today's City Score at 577 to Crimson's 512.

Wierdoton, all of one day old, put in a Farm and finished it — the tenth city's first building of its own. Its founder David (davesnothere) AZ-USA rose to Citizen the same day and gathered the medals that come with a first project well done: Builder, Foreman, On a Roll, and Bronze Renown. The realm's one cheer of the day went to a city founding, which feels about right.

Out past the roads, GrumpyGecko had the kind of day a hunter remembers. Nine species met for the first time — a Capercaillie, a Marmot, a Bobcat, an Axis Deer, a Golden Pheasant among them — and every single first meeting the realm recorded today belonged to that one hunter. An invitation to Mr. Crane's Reserve crossed the Trading Post counter for GrumpyGecko as well; Jensen DisasterCthulhu Ԙ: ⚔️🏹 bought three.

Elsewhere, quieter business. SpudVille zoned new ground — Milepost Haven and Marigold Furrows for cottage families, and Orchard Bloom Walk for eight Grand ones — while its Victualler sold clean out, shelves bare and waiting on a Supply Run. Sixteen tool levels were earned across ten players, the standing trade routes moved precisely what they moved yesterday, and every bingo card that resolved came back a blackout.

Wierdoton Makes Ten, and Skillzville Builds

A wilderness graduate founded the realm's tenth city today — while every tycoon on the roads pointed a caravan at Skillzville.

The realm has a tenth city. David (davesnothere) AZ-USA came in off the open country and put a name to a place — Wierdoton — and the honors arrived almost in the same breath: Off the Grid, Civilized, First Gather, Getting Started, and Fortune at Bronze. Five of the day's nine player medals belong to a founder who was living out of a pack a week ago. Twenty players now walk the realm, fifteen of them under a roof somewhere.

Elsewhere the hammers were all in one town. Skillzville finished its Market at Level 4, then broke ground twice more — a further Market stage and the Town Hall itself — and pegged out two new neighborhoods on the same day: Coopersfield Walk for thirteen cottage families and Mercantile Lane for seven merchant ones. The city took the realm's only city medal for it, Boomtown at Bronze.

Word travels. Almost every luxury caravan on the roads today had Skillzville written on the manifest: glass from ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸 and bradskillz, marble from Buzzaroo and Karen, silk, tapestry from PlasmaEddie, fine wine from GrumpyGecko — six importers, one address. Only Davetopia's dyes and gunpowder went anywhere else. A hundred routes ran today against eighty-six yesterday, with fourteen fresh deals struck to feed them.

bradskillz could not lose. A scratch ticket came up jackpot for 2,735 gold, and four more paid out behind it; Fortune went to Platinum and Big Game to Silver, and out in the field he shook hands with the Alpine Hare and the Highland Marmot for the first time. GrumpyGecko filled four passport slots of her own — Raccoon, Wild Turkey, Badger, Young Boar — and ☃ carried Trapper up to Obsidian. Eleven players pushed a tool to a new level between them.

And Jörg is now the man who knows what time it is. Horologists opened under his name in 🏗 Build, Smurftopia, Crimson's City, SpudVille, Buzz Hollow 🏘️ and XM Nexus, and his purse absorbed the four largest single charges in the realm, each over five thousand gold, all of them at the vendor's counter. Across every shop in every city the tills took more than the wage clerks paid out — though in SpudVille the Grocer stands with bare shelves tonight, waiting on a Supply Run. Davetopia, meanwhile, drew thirty-five visitors to its landmarks and 503 prestige for the trouble, the day's warmest welcome anywhere.

Tyler Kits Out for Mr. Crane's Reserve

Invitations to Mr. Crane's Reserve crossed the counter today — and Tyler came home with three species he had never seen.

The Trading Post had the busiest counter in the realm today. Invitations to Mr. Crane's Reserve went out to Tyler, PlasmaEddie and Jensen DisasterCthulhu Ԙ: ⚔️🏹 — Jensen taking two — and Tyler did not stop at the invitation. A Second Shift, a Gamekeeper's Party, a Hunting Party, a Rush Token and Hired Help all followed him out the door. A man does not buy that much kit for an ordinary afternoon.

It paid him. Tyler came back having met three species he had never laid eyes on before — an Estate Hare, a Peafowl and a Golden Pheasant, none of them over twenty-five pounds — and took Obsidian Naturalist for the collection. GrumpyGecko added two of his own, a Red Stag at 91 pounds and a Coyote at 52. Between the two of them the realm logged five first meetings all day; six hunters moved a personal best, and every one of them landed, again, at 242 pounds.

Skillzville kept its habit. The city broke ground on a Library and had it open at Level 4 before the day was out — the second time in three days Skillzville has started and finished a build inside a single day, and today it was the only build finished anywhere in the realm. A Library at that height does more than pay reputation to the people reading in it: it looks at what the city is genuinely short of and fills a citizen's empty queue slots with exactly that.

Buzz Hollow 🏘️ pegged out fresh cottage ground — Marigold Walk, Millstream Walk, Elmgrove Walk, Cairnstone Walk, thirty families to a lane — though the lines elsewhere are not shortening: XM Nexus and SpudVille each still have better than fifteen thousand cottage families waiting on a door. In XM Nexus, bradskillz opened a Horologist, and across the realm the shop counters took 80,305 gold against 61,425 paid out in wages. The roads, meanwhile, moved precisely what they moved yesterday — 5,609 units over 86 routes, to the unit. Some machinery just hums.

The bingo hall paid better than it took: 42,000 gold out in prizes against 9,000 spent on cards, and a single cheer went up somewhere for a win. Buzzaroo had the day's fortunes both ways — ninety-nine prize crates for 2,436 gold, Diamond Renown to go with it, and then 5,970 laid down at the vendor in one stroke, the largest single movement of gold in the realm today. Jörg took two of the day's four medals, Obsidian Trapper and Gold Traveler. Smurftopia drew the biggest crowd, 428 prestige off twenty-five landmark visits, while 🏗 Build holds the day's score at 837.

Nexus Builds All Day, and the Line Still Waits

XM Nexus pegged out cottage, merchant and grand ground in a single day and took Diamond Boomtown — with thousands of families still queued at the gate.

The surveyors of XM Nexus did not sit down today. Cottage lanes went in at Marigold Yard, Ivy Orchard Rise, Crossroads Haven and Slate Hollow Yard; merchant frontage followed at Birchwood Merchant Row and Cairnstone Merchant Rise; and above them both, Grand villas were staked out at Cloverfield Rise and Brookstone Rise. All three tiers of housing, broken in one day, in one city.

The realm answered with the day's only city medal — Diamond Boomtown for XM Nexus, the honor that counts families housed. And yet the waiting list there still stands at 14,991 cottage families, the longest in the realm, with SpudVille close behind at 14,867 and 🏗 Build at 13,346. That is what a boomtown actually looks like: streets going down as fast as hands can lay them, and a line at the gate that never gets shorter.

Out past the last fence, PlasmaEddie had the wilderness day of his life. Of ten first meetings recorded across the whole realm, seven were his — Old Longhorn, Pale Stallion, Feral Longhorn, Feral Hog, Barbary Sheep, Pronghorn and Mule Deer, one after another into a passport that only fills once per species. CrimTest1 met a White Hind, Tyler came face to face with a Kodiak Bear, and GrumpyGecko's slot was filled by a 45-pound Snow Hare — the smallest first meeting of the day, and no less permanent for it.

The purses ran the other way. Jörg laid out 175,000 gold on his estate, the single largest movement in the realm, then took a 638-gold scratch ticket as consolation. The vendor's counter was busy too, with PlasmaEddie back at it more than once, and nineteen tool masteries were earned across nine players by the end of it. Against all that outflow, the shop counters took 79,391 gold — comfortably clear of the 61,169 paid out in wages, and the best day at the tills these dispatches have recorded. Karen is much of the reason why: she opened a Confectioner in XM Nexus, Buzz Hollow 🏘️, SpudVille, 🏗 Build, Smurftopia and Crimson's City.

Elsewhere: David (davesnothere) AZ-USA collected four medals in a day — Packed and Ready, First Expedition, Roughing It and Full Queue — the shape of somebody finding their feet fast. Obsidian Naturalist went to both CrimTest1 and PlasmaEddie. Buzz Hollow 🏘️ drew the realm's biggest prestige surge at 256, Jensen DisasterCthulhu Ԙ: ⚔️🏹 brought home a trophy phoenix for the estate, and 🏗 Build holds the top of the City Score board at 813.

Bears for One Hunter, Foxes for the Other

Eleven species met for the first time, six trophies weighed in at 242 pounds apiece, and Buzz Hollow zoned all three tiers at once.

Two hunters went out this past day and came back with opposite halves of the same story. GrumpyGecko kept meeting the heavy ones — an elk, a mountain lion, a caribou, then a brown bear and a black bear, each of them a first in a lifetime of hunting. Tyler spent the same hours among the small and quick: an arctic fox, a wolverine, a desert coyote, a ringtail, a snow hare. Eleven first meetings across eleven species were logged in the realm today, and between the two of them they accounted for ten. The eleventh belonged to CrimTest1, who put a bog elk in the book. GrumpyGecko's Wildlife Passport crossed into Diamond Naturalist on the way through.

Stranger still was what the scales said elsewhere. Karen, CrimTest1, Jörg, ☃, ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸 and Tyler all improved their personal best today — and every single one of those trophies weighed in at exactly 242 pounds. Ice bears, elder ice bears, a great aurochs. Six hunters, six new records, one number.

Back where the roofs go up, Buzz Hollow 🏘️ had the busiest surveyors in the realm — cottage lanes at Thornwood Hollow and Weavers Green, merchant streets at Cloverfield Mews and Millrace Green, and grand ground at Rosewood Terrace and Waypost Gardens, all three tiers pegged out in a single day. XM Nexus answered with Slate Ridge Gardens, Lantern Weaver's Court and the Archstone Villas, and 🏗 Build laid out Foxglove Gardens. They are all working against the same pressure: nearly fifteen thousand families are still waiting on a cottage door in XM Nexus alone, and SpudVille and 🏗 Build are not far behind.

Skillzville had the loudest building yard. Its Bank reached Level 4, and its Hunter's Lodge was broken ground and finished inside the same day — the level where the Lodge starts sending its own standing parties out without being asked. The realm's importers, meanwhile, are still pointing their caravans that way: glass, marble, silk and spices all rolled into Skillzville, with jade, gunpowder and spices going on to SpudVille.

The counters kept their edge — 70,392 gold taken across the realm's shops against 60,781 paid out in wages — though the Tailors of Crimson's City and Smurftopia both sold clean out, along with Smurftopia's and SpudVille's chandlers and horologists. Somebody will need a Supply Run before the shelves earn another coin. AMKS spent heavily at the vendor, four purchases over five thousand gold apiece, and finished the day with Diamond Renown for it. The bingo cards came back blackout after blackout, prize crates paid out to half the realm, and Jensen DisasterCthulhu Ԙ: ⚔️🏹 installed a trophy unicorn on his estate. XM Nexus drew the day's biggest prestige surge from 24 landmark visits; 🏗 Build still holds the top of the board.

Sixteen tool level-ups landed across nine players — the quiet arithmetic under everything else.

Two Houses, and a Tailor in Every Town

Tyler and Karen each laid out 175,000 gold on their estates — five times what every shop counter in the realm took all day.

Two purses opened very wide today. Tyler spent 175,000 gold on his estate; Karen spent exactly the same, and the realm's personal fortunes were 350,000 gold lighter by evening. Set that beside the day's honest trade — 69,025 gold across every shop counter in every city, against 60,587 paid out in wages — and you have the measure of it: two front doors cost more than the whole realm earned over its counters. Karen, for her part, walked into the Bank first and drew a 25,000-gold note against the work ahead.

While the great houses were being fitted out, AMKS was signing leases. A Tailor's shop opened in Crimson's City, and then another in 🏗 Build, in SpudVille, in Smurftopia, in XM Nexus, and in Buzz Hollow 🏘️ — the same trade, the same shopkeeper, six towns over. The 🏗 Build shelves did not last the day: its Tailor sold out clean, and the Chandler beside it went the same way, as did the Chandler in Crimson's City. Bare shelves are the pleasant kind of problem, and every one of them is waiting on a Supply Run.

Smurftopia spent the day laying streets. Rosepetal Cottages, Milepost Lane, Willow Knoll Gardens, Millrace Cottages and Elmgrove Nook were all pegged out for thirty families apiece, while Crimson's City zoned two merchant lanes — Copperkettle Lane and Saffrongate Lane. There is no shortage of takers. XM Nexus alone has 14,210 families standing outside the cottage gate with nowhere yet to put them. Over in Skillzville, the ground was broken on a Bank.

Out past the fences, four hunters filled twelve empty pages in their Wildlife Passports — twelve species, none of them ever met by those hunters before. CrimTest1 took six of them in a single day's walking, from a Golden Pheasant of eighteen pounds up to an Axis Deer; Tyler logged four; PlasmaEddie came face to face with a Tundra Wolf at 136 pounds. ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸 met a Pale Stallion at 223, and finished the day with the only two medals the realm awarded — Naturalist at Obsidian and Renown at Diamond. Thirteen tool masteries were earned besides, spread across eight pairs of hands.

SpudVille drew the caravans: importer after importer set down spices, gunpowder, tapestry, jade and fine wine at its gates, and its landmarks pulled 392 prestige from seventeen visits. The standing roads, meanwhile, carried 5,609 units over 86 routes — precisely what they carried yesterday, to the unit. Some things in this realm are weather; some are clockwork. 🏗 Build closes the day at the head of the City Score board with 1,119.

A Colosseum, and Streets to Match

SpudVille broke ground on a Colosseum and threw its gates open the same day — then went out and staked new streets beside it.

There was nothing on the ground in SpudVille this morning where The Colosseum now stands. Ground was broken, stone went in, and by the end of the day the gates were open. It was the sort of build a city usually spends a week talking about first.

The visitors came, too. SpudVille drew the largest prestige surge in the realm — 390 off nineteen landmark visits — and while the masons were busy the zoning office was busier: new cottage ground, a merchant quarter and grand villas all staked out in one day, against a cottage waiting list that still runs to 12,828 families. Over in Crimson's City, the Royal Menagerie went up and opened in a single day of its own.

Skillzville, meanwhile, kept its furnaces going. The Mine, the Textile Mill and the Farm all reached Level 4 today — every one of them broken ground and finished between dawn and dusk — its Craftworks stepped up to Level 2, and the city took a Masterworks medal for the week's work. Fourteen tool masteries were earned across eight hands realm-wide, and the importers still steered marble, spices, silk and fine wine toward Skillzville's warehouses.

Behind the counters, bradskillz opened Horologists in Crimson's City and Smurftopia — a second day running of raising the same trade in two more towns — while the Chandler in XM Nexus sold clean out and stands waiting on a Supply Run. The shops took 66,307 gold against 60,674 paid out in wages: a fifth straight day the counters have finished ahead of the payroll.

Out in the wilderness it was Tyler's day for the Passport — five species met for the first time, of eight across the whole realm by three hunters. CrimTest1 shook hands with a Great Aurochs and a Fen Boar, and ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸 met an Elder Ice Bear. Karen took Obsidian Trapper and GrumpyGecko took Platinum Renown; Jensen DisasterCthulhu Ԙ: ⚔️🏹 and Jörg each laid out 2,000 gold on an invitation to a private reserve. Blackouts all round at the bingo tables, and 🏗 Build still holds the score board at 820.

All Roads Lead to Skillzville

Silk, marble, spices and glass all rolled the same way today — into Skillzville, and two more of its works came up to Level 4.

Two chimneys went up hot over Skillzville today. The Clay Pit and the Coal Shaft each broke ground and each stood finished at Level 4 before the day was out — the Industrial era arriving not in one announcement but in a steady week of them, one works at a time.

And the roads agreed. Marble came in from ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸, silk from bradskillz, Buzzaroo and Karen, spices from Jensen DisasterCthulhu Ԙ: ⚔️🏹 and Jörg, glass on top of it — the licensed importers of the realm turning their carts down the same lane all day. Twelve visits' worth of travelers followed them in, and Skillzville took 120 prestige off the strangers at its gates. A city that builds and buys at once is a city that means to be somewhere.

Over in Davetopia, the Chamber of Commerce reached Level 3 — ground broken and roof on inside the day, which is becoming that city's signature — widening the range of trades its zones may host. The counters, meanwhile, held their run: shop tills took 66,556 gold against 61,190 paid out in wages, a fourth straight day of commerce out-earning the payroll. Not every shelf survived the traffic. The Chandler in Crimson's City stands at zero and wants a Supply Run.

Tyler had the day out in the long grass. Five species met for the first time — a Beaver, a Coyote, a Young Boar, a Wild Turkey, a Badger — none of them a trophy, all of them a new page in the Passport, which is its own kind of good day. Nine first meetings across nine species by five hunters in all: PlasmaEddie came across a Dall Sheep, ☃ an Old Longhorn, ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸 a Mountain Lion, and GrumpyGecko a Marsh Stag at 178 pounds. Davetopia's lodge brought home the heaviest of the city parties at 207 pounds and 137 pelts.

Six medals were struck today. ☃ and GrumpyGecko both took Legend; CrimTest1 and ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸 both took Trapper at Obsidian; bradskillz took two on his own, Diamond Hauler and Platinum Renown. Thirteen tool masteries climbed a rung between eight players. And at the vendor's counter Jensen DisasterCthulhu Ԙ: ⚔️🏹 spent more than anyone — 5,256 gold, with Mr. Crane's Invitation among what he carried out. Fortune smiled mostly on Jörg, who took 795 from a scratch ticket and the best of the prize crates besides.

Five Roofs Over Davetopia

Davetopia laid five visitor buildings' foundations and finished every one of them the same day — while SpudVille's shelves ran clean out.

Davetopia spent the day in scaffolding and ended it cutting ribbons. Five foundations were laid — a Cartographers' Guild, a Botanical Conservatory, a Jade Garden, a Jeweller's Showcase and a Dyehouse Gallery — and before the day was out, every one of them stood finished. Not one of the five is a building a city raises for its own comfort. Jade walks, hanging bolts of dyed cloth, a glasshouse of growing things: all five exist to be looked at by somebody who came a long way to look. Davetopia drew 108 prestige from fifteen visits today, and it did that with the doors still shut on the new work.

Beneath the ribbon-cutting sat the unglamorous half that paid for it — Davetopia's Quarry and Sawmill both climbed to Level 5, stone and timber running at the Age of Commerce's full flood. Skillzville is climbing the same stairs a rung at a time and a step behind: its Town Hall reached the Industrial era two days ago, its Sawmill followed yesterday, and today its Quarry reached Level 4. Three days, three upgrades, in the order the era rewards. The importers have noticed the young city too — silk, glass and spices came in by caravan, brokered by ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸, bradskillz, Buzzaroo, Jörg and Karen.

In SpudVille the day ran the other direction, and pleasantly so: the Victualler and the Grocer both sold clean out, shelves bare and the tills full, waiting now on a Supply Run. Elsewhere the counters multiplied — bradskillz opened a Horologist in Buzz Hollow 🏘️ and a second in 🏗 Build. Realm-wide, shop counters took 66,719 gold against 61,932 paid out in wages: the third day running that trade has out-earned the payroll, and the gap has widened on every one of them.

Out past the fences, seven hunters recorded 23 first meetings across 21 species — ten of them GrumpyGecko's alone, a passport filling faster than anyone else's in the realm. Karen took Naturalist in Obsidian and Tyler took it in Diamond; Jensen DisasterCthulhu Ԙ: ⚔️🏹 took Platinum Contributor. Six personal bests moved and every one of them read 242 pounds, the second straight day the trophy column has ended on that exact number. At the benches, seventeen tool masteries climbed a rung across nine players.

🏗 Build holds the day at 770, with Davetopia second at 564 and Buzz Hollow 🏘️ third at 511. SpudVille drew the busiest gate in the realm — 260 prestige from nineteen visits — and nine prize containers cracked open for 27,000 gold between them. Somewhere in Davetopia, five sets of doors are waiting on their first visitor.

Six Trophies, One Number

Six hunters brought home a personal best today — and every one of them weighed in at exactly 242 pounds.

Six hunters set a new personal best today, and the scale at the lodge gave the same answer six times: 242 pounds. Four of them were Elder Ice Bears, brought in by CrimTest1, ☃, Tyler and Buzzaroo. The other two were Great Aurochs, one for Jörg and one for AMKS. Two species, six hunters, one number — the kind of coincidence that will be argued about at the tanning racks for a while.

Around those six trophies the wilderness had a busy, wandering sort of day: 22 first meetings across 17 species by eight hunters. PlasmaEddie met six of them, including a Desert Bighorn and a Bog Elk; Tyler met five. Karen turned up a Fen Boar in the wet country, GrumpyGecko a Muskox Calf and a Caribou Bull, CrimTest1 a Dall Sheep and a Snow Bison. Only one medal changed hands all day, and it went to AMKS — Obsidian Naturalist, for a passport that keeps filling.

In the building yard, Skillzville made good on yesterday immediately: one day after its Town Hall reached the Industrial Era, its Sawmill came up to Level 4 — the first of its producers to open the tap. SpudVille lifted its Market to Level 5, and Davetopia did something rarer still: it broke ground on both the Falconry Mews and the Clockmaker's Tower and had the doors open on both before the day was out.

The counting house tells the same story it started telling yesterday, and it is holding: 66,333 gold over the shop counters against 62,896 in wages, a second day of the merchants out-earning the payroll. Against that, 48,526 went the other way at the vendor's window — Jörg alone in for two payments of better than seven thousand apiece, and a Crane's Invitation besides, while AMKS quietly stocked up on rested potions. Twenty tool masteries climbed a rung across ten players. Every bingo card that resolved today resolved as a blackout, and six cheers went out to the winners.

SpudVille spent the day being supplied by everyone: spices arriving from Buzzaroo, Jörg, Jensen DisasterCthulhu Ԙ: ⚔️🏹 and ʂɧąŋɛ (Ɩąʂ ۷ɛɠąʂ) 🇺🇸, fine wine from GrumpyGecko, tapestry from PlasmaEddie — and 352 prestige drawn in from 22 visits, more than any other city. 🏗 Build still takes the day on score at 1,356, its best mark in some time, with Crimson's City behind it at 920.
